Okay, I know you’ve seen them.  Those squarish, black and white, pixelated looking things.  They seem to be popping up everywhere – in ads, on products, on billboards, on the sides of cards, on business cards.   But what the heck are they?

QR is short for “Quick Response”.  A QR Code is a 2-D barcode containing data that can be read by a smartphone’s camera. They were invented in 1994 by Denso, a Toyota subsidiary, to track cars as they were manufactured.

Today, they are being used for marketing and educational purposes in addition to their inventory roots.

In order to scan a QR code, you’ll need a reader on your phone.  You can go to your apps market and search for code reader.  We personally use Neo Reader – but anyone will do to get you started.  You can always switch later.  Once you’ve installed a reader, all you do is open that app and essentially take a picture of the QR Code.  Some apps automatically register the code, for others you’ll need to depress the shutter as if you’re taking a photo.

From there, your phone will take you to a specific destination. Want to test it out?  Give these a try and start thinking about how you can use them in your marketing.  Need some ideas?  Not sure how to implement it all?  Scan below and let’s chat.
